Recognized as one of America
This important vase is Rosetree's
interpretation of the destruction from Hurricane Katrina seen upon New Orleans.
Each piece is individual and represents specific symbols that are now ingrained
in everyday life in New Orleans. The multi-colored base symbolizes the
multi-cultural blend of people unique to the city and it's partially covered by
a thickness of heavily rippled glass representing the flood waters. A thin
wrap of black glass on the body of the vase is a reminder of the high-water mark
left on thousands of buildings. A bright blue lip on each vase echoes the
ubiquitous "blue roofs" that temporarily cover many homes while a single
embedded glass flower above the water line symbolizes the birth of a "new" New
Orleans that will rise above the tragedy.
